Student Placements
Staffordshire Women's Aid are enthusiastic to give work placement opportunities to university students, providing induction training and a variety of experiences including team work, crisis and helpline work, one to one work with adults and children, group work, multi-agency working and associated training.
Staffordshire Women's Aid have provided successful placements for students from Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, Keele, Coventry, Birmingham and Derby Universities and have on site practice assessors for a number of Social Work Degree students.
Students are expected to be female, mature, flexible and eager to learn. Knowledge of Domestic and Sexual Violence is not essential as in-house training is provided. Students will find the working environment of busy voluntary sector offices and centres a learning experience and a fascinating comparison to statutory work placements. Placements for under 30 working days are sadly not practical however Staffordshire Women’s Aid is open to approaches by universities and students from all courses that feel a placement would beneficial to the student and the organisation.
Staffordshire Women's Aid has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures that guide and maintain best practice throughout the organisation, students are expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to the organisations policies and procedures, for this reason intense support and supervision are given during induction and throughout the placement. Students are actively encouraged to attend applicable training where available.
Please be aware that this placement can be very rewarding but also emotionally challenging.
